Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA)
The COC project is a 3 year planning grant to plan and design a family-driven, community-
based, and culturally and linguistically competent system of care for Native children, youth and
families in Orange County.

A system of care is “a spectrum of effective community-based services and supports for children
and youth, with or at risk for mental health or other challenges, and their families, that is
organized into a coordinated network, builds meaningful partnerships with families and youth,
and addresses their cultural and linguistic needs, in order for them to function better at home, in
school, and throughout life.” With this program, we aim to increase resilience and improve
emotional health for AI/AN children, youth, and families in Orange County.

We will be conducting a Community Needs Assessment which will consist of:
Focus Groups
Key Informant Interviews
Community Needs Survey
Our Services System Assessment will consist of
Service System Survey
Community Needs Assessment

With this data and the support of our advisory board and the OC Native Community we will
develop a System of Care and secure funds to begin to implement this System of Care.
