California Tribal and Urban Indian Community Defined Best Practices: Implementing Cultural Practices with a focus on Social Networks and Historical Loss Healing

Funded by Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) State Opioid Response III federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The program will provide the opportunity to identify and integrate cultural, traditional and community-defined best practices into substance use disorder (SUD) supports for engagement, treatment and recovery.

This will consist of a 6 week healing and support series focusing on Culture, Social Networks, and Healing from Historical Trauma.

To prevent substance use disorders among American Indigan and Alaska Natives (AIANs) in Los Angeles and Orange County. Our new interventions will also help to decrease the impact of historical trauma among AIANs, which through our research has shown to increase anxiety causing an increased risk in the use of Alcohol and Drugs.
